Azam Ali has one of the most seductive and effortlessly disciplined voices today. The Iranian-born, Indian-raised vocalist makes traditional and newly composed songs smolder with dreamy longing, with the grief of exile in a conflict-riven world, and with a keen edge of hope – sublimely interpreted through ultra-modern beats and ambient drones. Celebrating her new cd on Six Degrees, Ali's sophisticated exploration of Iranian, Turkish, Lebanese, and Kurdish lullabies shine through her unique vocals and aesthetic, honed on three solo albums and a career that has included collaborations with Mickey Hart to System of a Down, and Nine Inch Nails to King Crimson, as well as her own project Niyaz. For this concert she is accompanied by Ramin Loga Torkian on saz (lute) and kamaan bam (bowed lute); Naser Musa on vocals, oud (lute); Jess Stroup on guitar and programming, and Mathias Kunzli on percussion.
"Ali makes music seem so effortless, so much so that it's becoming harder and harder to distinguish between her person and the music that she creates.." - Huffington Post
